If you’re looking for a quick dinner that feels like a restaurant meal, these potato chip coated chicken tenders are your new go-to. The chip coating gives them the most amazing crunch, and the cheddar flavor is honestly so good. We love making these for snack wraps, but they’re also perfect on their own with your favorite dipping sauce.
Why You’ll Love These:
- Crunchy, cheesy coating that stays crispy
- Super easy to make with simple ingredients
- Perfect for wraps or snacks
- Air fryer friendly (less oil, same crunch)
- Kid-approved

Gluten-Free Note
This recipe can be gluten-free, depending on the potato chip flavor and the brand. Lay’s Cheddar & Sour Cream chips are usually gluten-free, but it’s always best to double-check the packaging if you’re sensitive to gluten or have celiac disease. My husband can eat these with no issue, but please confirm the ingredients before serving to someone with gluten restrictions.
Ingredients (Makes about 8 tenders)
Chicken:
- 8 chicken tenders (or a typical pack)
Flour Mixture (seasoned):
- 1 cup all-purpose flour (we use gluten-free 1:1 flour)
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 1 tsp paprika
- 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper (optional, or adjust to taste)
- Salt & pepper to taste
Other Breading:
- 3 eggs, beaten
- 1 bag Lay’s Cheddar & Sour Cream chips, crushed
Instructions
1. Prep the chicken
Pat the chicken tenders dry with paper towels. Season lightly with salt and pepper.
2. Set up your breading stations
- Bowl 1: flour + seasonings
- Bowl 2: beaten eggs
- Bowl 3: crushed cheddar chips
3. Bread the chicken
Dredge each tender in the flour mixture, dip into egg, then press into the crushed chips until fully coated.
4. Air fry
Preheat your air fryer to 425F. Place tenders in a single layer and cook until golden brown and cooked through (flip halfway for even crispiness) about 15 minutes.
5. Serve
Let rest for 1–2 minutes before serving.
Our Favorite Way to Serve: Snack Wraps
We usually make these into snack wraps by putting them in a warm tortilla with:
- shredded cheddar cheese
- shredded lettuce
- ranch or honey mustard sauce
Roll it up and you’ve got a quick, satisfying meal.
Tips for Best Results
- Don’t overcrowd the air fryer (cook in batches if needed)
- Press the chips firmly into the chicken so they stick
- Use a thicker chip for extra crunch
Storage & Reheating
Store leftovers in an airtight container. Reheat in the air fryer to keep the coating crispy.
