Projects That *Hopefully* Won’t Make You Melt

Let’s be honest—this heat has totally paused any of our bigger homestead projects.

No one is out here digging trenches or building fence lines when the air feels like soup. But we’re still managing to chip away at a few small things that are actually doable when it’s blazing outside.

Frozen Treat Prep for the Flock

This one’s quick, easy, and honestly kind of fun. We’ve been tossing together frozen pea and fruit mixes in muffin tins and ice cube trays—basically little heatwave popsicles for the ducks and geese. They love them, and it gives us a break from the constant hose refills.

The “Later When It’s Cooler” List

Since we’re stuck waiting on cooler mornings and evenings (or maybe a breeze that doesn’t feel like a blow dryer), we’re keeping a running list of bigger projects to tackle when it’s tolerable again:

  • Fencing in the ducks permanent grazing area
  • Finishing the duck pond area
  • Getting a dumpster to get rid of mess around the property
  • Cleaning out the shop and finally getting it organized

Sometimes the win is just staying cool, hydrated, and dreaming of fall.

Plan (Mainly Dream) the Fall Garden

Pull out a notebook or pull up Pinterest—this is the perfect time to dream up your fall planting. What worked this year? What didn’t? What do you wish you had growing right now? Jot it down and make a wish list for when the temps finally break. My summer garden failed but maybe I can get some fall plants in a separate area going? Who knows.

Revamp the Grilling Area

We’ve been slowly working on making our outdoor grilling space more useable—think quick sweeps, reorganizing supplies, maybe even adding some shade or a little table. It’s too hot to cook outside most days, so upgrading this area now means yummy dinners from the grill later on.

Re-Gravel Touch-Ups

We’re also tackling small re-gravel jobs around the driveway and key walking areas. It’s definitely not a one-day thing, but hauling and spreading a few wheelbarrow loads in the early morning is manageable—and makes a big difference in how tidy and safe things feel. Also can’t help but want that “curb appeal”.

Any summer projects you’re trying to tackle or come up with? We’d love to hear them to get inspiration or ways to make our ideas easier!

Thanks for reading!
